Sand Colic Prevention

SAND COLIC PREVENTION!!!!

VERY IMPORTANT!

It is important to protect your horse from sand colic. Colic is a digestion problem with horses. Sand colic is caused by horses ingesting sand in harmful quantities. To protect your horse from it, follow these 3 tips!

1. Don't feed your horse off the ground. They can accidentally eat the sand from the ground when they go to eat the food, which can cause sand colic.
2. Give your horses plenty of water. If they do get some sand in their system, they can drink water to flush it out. Then it is more likely that the sand will just come out in their droppings.
3. Make sure that your grass is fairly long. If your horse grazes and the grass is too short, your horse is more at risk to ingest some sand. They could also eat unhealthy roots.

If your horse does ingest harmful quantities of sand, encourage it to drink water and call a vet!
Hope these tips help prevent such a thing!

Get To Know The Body Parts

GET TO KNOW THE BODY PARTS

It is important to learn the body parts, or points of the horse. All equestrians should be able to recognize which parts are which.
Quick! What part is this?
It's a cannon, or cannon bone. Can you find it in the diagram above?
A cannon is a part on a horse's leg. It is located directly under the hock, and above the fetlock.

Can you name this other body part?

It's the horse's withers. When measuring in hands, measure to the withers.

I hope you had fun learning some body parts!
